HUMAN SECURITY IN CONFLICT
About
This programme addresses the everyday risks faced by people living amid conflict, recognising that security is not limited to military protection but also encompasses dignity, livelihoods, healthcare, and access to essential services. JustPeace works with local partners to identify and respond to threats such as forced displacement, food insecurity, gender-based violence, and the destruction of social infrastructure. Together, they prioritise strategies that strengthen resilience in ways that are inclusive, context-sensitive, and grounded in the lived realities of affected communities.
The Human Security in Conflict Programme develops initiatives that connect protection with peacebuilding—for example, by creating safe spaces for dialogue in areas of displacement, integrating psychosocial support into community structures, and establishing early-warning systems to prevent escalation of violence. In contexts such as Afghanistan and Sudan, these approaches have proven vital in sustaining communities under extreme pressure.
JustPeace is also exploring possibilities to use scenario-based analyses to bring adversaries together and open space for constructive dialogue and long-term solutions.
